BE AWARE !!!!!
If you have a 1dMKIV and you attempt to update your firmware with an EYE-FI card in the 2nd slot your camera will go dead as soon as you start the firmware update, even though you have the new firmware code on the CF card in the primary slot. This happens whether you do the firmware update by placing the firmware in the root of the CF card or if you use the EOS Utility to do the update.

Canon CPS was not aware of this issue and I replicated it in 2 separate bodies, so much so that they sent me shipping labels to have my bodies checked.

To get your body to turn back on, remove the battery, remove all cards, put the battery into the body, put ONLY the CF card in the body, power it on and your body should now complete the firmware update. If not simply power off and restart the process

Good to know, but I guess I don't need to worry since I'm already up to date on firmware and I don't use Eye-Fi cards, plus I've always done the firmware updates with CF card only in camera. I do use PQI aircards though I wonder if they'd cause the same problem.

Oh, I guess not. I didn't expect they have another one other than to maybe support something new and didn't think about the 200-400 since it hasn't even started shipping to customers yet.

I guess if it only has updates for that lens I don't have a need at this time and only would if I rented it for Safari assuming the 1DIV is still my high speed/reach body when I do finally go.

Maybe I'll do it just to see if the PQI causes problems since you already mentioned the steps to get it back on track.

Edit: I just read on Canon rumars(the frist place I found that gave any info on the update that there's also this: Fixes a phenomenon in which abnormal images may result when continuous shooting mode is enabled and the image size is set to “RAW” or “RAW+JPEG.

So maybe I'll go ahead and do it.

It's not just the 1D4!! I had the same thing happen to me when I updated my 5D3 to firmware 1.2.1. It locked up at the start of the process and would only work again after I had removed the battery and eye-fi card (the firmware was on my CF card). To say my heart was in my mouth was an understatement! Luckily, the update seemed to go OK as all seems well with my 5D3.
