Well, I'm getting closer to the shot I have in my head and I'm aiming for. Alas, still, this isn't it, but it's the closest I've got to date.

I should have got the water in and, as a result, had more breathing space for the talons at the bottom.

The biggest problem is trying to work out where this guy is going to dive. I watch him as he is perched for hunting and try to work out a zone where he seems particularly interested in, then I get myself over to where I need to be, get low, and wait...and wait...

On the whole they tend to go elsewhere and I either miss it or get a perspective from the back that just isn't worth keeping. Still, one day....

I guess we all need something to strive for, but I've got to say, that is one amazing image!

Perseverance pays, Andrew; you've got it and you'll get it. Well done.

Fantastic shot, getting animals to follow your thoughts and desires tends to be an exercise in futility. Your patience and perseverance will payoff since you have been studying their tendencies.

Beautiful shot-even if it's not what you want. The question is, did he get his fish?

Well done Andrew. I'd be very happy with this shot if it were men.

Andrew, it is fantastic image in every respect however I am not sure about: it is landing or diving/swooping. I have spent lots of time trying to capture a diving sequence myself but looking at your image it is more like trying to land rather than diving(does not look like going for the fish). Osprey puts out the talon at the last millisecond just before touchdown and tail will be up in the air(most of the time if not always). I have posted a not so great sequence here few moths ago:
https://photography-on-the.net …2&highlight=osprey+diving

If I Google image search "Osprey landing" I find many images like yours but if I do similar search for "diving" they are different. It is nothing to take away your great image but...swooping/diving...I am not sure.
