Looker for an extra battery or two for my 6D. Had success with 3rd party when I had my 7D, but seems people with 6D's are getting error message and no battery charge on the camera when used, even though the battery powers the camera.

Was going to buy one of these two, but seems all have compatibility issues with 6D

STK (external link)

Anyone know where I can find decent (error free) batteries for my 6d?

I get the "Communication is irregular" error message every time I put a 3rd party battery in my 6D. Simply select 'OK' and you can use the camera. All of my 3rd party batteries work fine in the 6D (no power level reading though), you just get this message anytime you remove/insert the batteries. Also, none of my 3rd party batteries work in my OEM charger. I bought a couple of cheapo chargers off eBay and everything works fine. I can shoot all day with my Meike grip and 2 Hong Kong specials. $99 for one OEM battery, I don't think so.

message the seller to make sure their new batteries are fully 6D compatible.

I believe the new STK ones are.

The Wasabi is compatible with the 6D. I have one and it works properly. These have been compatible since Feb 19, 2013. If for some reason you'd buy these used, there is a chance they may not work if they are the old kind.

I paid 55 on amazon in January for an OEM. still only 59. Overpriced yes; but for something that will likely last as long as the camera; and you will notice day by day (with dimished life and/or no life reading) why be frugal when a uv filter is twice the cost?

Same thought process had me upgrade LR3 to LR4; 80 bucks and *all* my glass is slightly better(new process is noticeably better), a bargain compared to other areas (glass).

As I said though, I'm using 2 Wasabi Power batteries and haven't had an issue. I shoot just about every day and only charge a battery every other week... according to my 6D battery info their in perfect shape still too. I use Lithium batteries for several other hobbies and while it's true that not all batteries are created equal, more expensive does not always translate to better performance. Also, my Nikon p300 OEM battery will not hold a charge anymore, but the 2 Wasabi Power batteries I have for it both work great ;)

I alternate between my 6D STK and OEM battery, never could tell the difference in the camera. Both read and perform exactly the same. Why pay 3x more for the same thing?
