Nice thread. I might get one myself if canon reduces the price by, say, 90%.

Hey guys,

So I've been testing this lens for quite some time and used it all over the place. I wanted to post a couple of samples now that I have also posted a very in-depth review. (external link)

This one is @560mm

Incredible lens..... if you want to see more images then there's a lot in the review. (external link) I hope that's ok to post that link, it seems relevant to the conversation.

Good review. Looking forward to renting this lens.

Echoing Frank... great review! I can afford to buy the 200-400 but I cannot justify it, so I will just live vicariously through you guys in threads like these! :)

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Because I'm not married I don't have to justify anything. :)
But at this price I have to try it before I buy it.

Thanks guys!

For me it replaced a 300mm f2.8 which I was constantly using 1.4x and 2x converters with. I can't tall you how much nicer it is to not have to worry about that now.

Good looking shots. IQ looks terrific.

Can you fellas with this lens tell me how difficult/easy it is to handhold this lens. Could you fellas walk around with it for a few hours on a Black rapid strap?

Thanks in advance.

Hanging from shoulder with the BR strap is fine. The only time I need to find some support is when it is aimed at something waiting for some action. In such cases the left arm will start to tremble a bit. Guess it is a matter of getting used to the weight and after a while it should be fine.

About the BR be very careful and hold the tripod collar while walking around. One time the screw came off but luckily I was holding the camera with the other hand. Hazard to guess the result if it had been free-hanging.

I gotta think there's a weight limit to the blackrapid attachments. best to read the fine print before you $11,000 lens meet the pavement.

I carry my 100-400 with camera on my Black Rapid regularly. No worries AS LONG AS you make sure everything is snug and tightened!

Thanks for the prompt response.

I handhold the 300 f2.8 with 2X tele with the BR strap for hours with no problem. The combination weighs about 7lbs not including camera body. The 200-400 weighs about 8lbs but is a few inches longer which may make it more difficult to handhold beyond its 1lb difference.

It does look like the ultimate travel lens though and maybe Santa will bring it for Christmas...

For me handhold more than a few minutes is not an option. I use monopod.

As for strap I use the Canon strap that comes with the lens and support the lens with one hand when walking around. And if my monopod is attached I also use that to support the lens when walking.

I took the leopard image in Samburu National Reserve, Kenya. Sorry for the late post, I didn't see the replies.

Here's a couple more from Missouri State Class 4 Semi-Finals.
