I just got back from a trip to olympic national park where I rented this lens. Lots of photos to process to get them up here, but they'll come!

The lens was phenomenal. 560 isn't as long as I though it would be on full frame, but still more than I've ever had.

The IS was amazing. On a monopod I got sharp shots at 1/30 at 560mm.

The wildlife didn't cooperate as much as I wanted but I got a few keepers. However the creative uses and telephoto effect allowed some fantastic landscape shots that really capture the grand sizes of nature surrounding olympic national park.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

bigcountry, those are great shots. How many of those are heavily cropped? The reason I'm asking is because I went to shoot eagles a few times this year and found 560 to a be a bit short.

SunTsu, those are not actually heavily cropped. maybe hardly cropped at all. i can post one of a leopard crazy cropped. I have found on the 1dx you can crop a lot and still have a decent image....

Question for all you happy 200-400 owners, any problems so far? Any quality drop-off when shooting longer range (over 40M or so)? Looking at getting one but still wonder if the 300 2.8 II is maybe also a good option with TCs. Price wise half just don't zoom.

I've not used mine much but I have found sharpness is not as great at long distances but I've read that could be the atmosphere.

Does this beastie work best with internal 1.4 plus extra 1.4TC or better just a 2xIII TC? Would like to hear you experiences on that. I guess the 2X should be better but since the 1.4TC built in is so darn good...?
