Magic Lantern allows for RAW Video

Anybody have specific knowlege on this recent update from the ML folks?

I know it's released on the 50d, but can't find any information on other cameras.

Yeh, but so little of it actually has anything to do with ML Raw

It's available on quite a few cameras.

It works on my 600D and 50D... Although the 600D can only record at 21mb/s maximum so limited to a resolution of 960x540 @ 24fps, or trading off more width for less height etc.

Funnily the 50D is an excellent candidate - 15 megapixels so less moire than other cameras, huge buffer as it was a camera with a decent burst rate, and CF card slot for 100+mb/s recording.

It's a pity the 60D went to an SD card slot, it's fairly crippled by this for raw video as it cant write to the card fast enough.

Basically anything with a CF card slot (except for the poor 7D which never seems to get any ML goodies) is going to work pretty well with raw video.

As best I know it's working on: 550D, 600D, 50D, 60D, 5D2, 5D3, 6D with varying degrees of success.

I gave it a quick test run today, and good lord it looks amazing. Was filming 720p @ 30fps and it looks... just so different to before.

quick question..... does this mean I can just grade in lightroom, with possibly a little touch up in premier or FCP? I know it may mean an extra step in the workflow but I have a number of presets that i'd love to try out.

If it is like the BMCC then yes, but you'll have to render the clip out through AE before importing into Premiere because it does not support DNG sequences.

From what I understand, the workflow is still being worked out and is a little bit of a hassle vs what you get from the Black Magic. First the RAW data from the cards has to be run through a converter that they have posted in the ML forums followed by being graded in a program such as ACR or Lightroom and then exported to jpegs or the likes to be then brought into a timeline as an image sequence played back at whatever your framerate may have been.

komputerbay 1000x cards. DO NOT BUY THE 128GB
64gb and under works fine though.

i own a sandisk 16gb 600x card that works fine though. just need more space

They are MUCH slower than the others. There have been a couple of ppl who reported being able to sustain 1080P raw with them, but it is waaaaaaaaaaaay to far in between

Will the 95mb/sec SanDisk cards work?

Is komputerbay a reputable brand? I'm always leery of purchasing a CF card from someone other than SanDisk or Lexar.

Yes... and no.
They are quite an old brand, but they ar new(???) in the CF market.
I've heard that they use sandisk parts that didn't make it through the quality inspection.
BUT, out of the MANY people happy with the 64gb cards, I've only heard of 2 incidents where the 64gb's werent fast enough.
Order a couple and try them out. if you get any that are too slow, you'll know immediately and you can simply send it back in

I was planning to get a handful of 32 GB cards just so I don't have all my eggs in one basket.
