KGSR Blues on the Green - Austin, TX - Alpha Rev

these were taken at the 1st 2013 KGSR Blues on the Green at Zilker Park in Austin, TX...this event has been going on for a few years & always attracts a HUGE crowd

#1 is okay, but might have been better if you dropped down on a knee. You then would have had similar framing for the singer, but without the people in the background (assuming the thing in the foreground wouldn't be blocking the view).
#2 is OoF.
#3: Focus on the bassplayer (could have worked), but the main problem for me is the cello player (and the drummer being behind a mic).
#4: okay
#5: better then #4, but not tack sharp. Best moment though.

these were all shot behind makeshift railings & from the park grass...had i dropped to 1 knee, i wouldve been competing w/ spectators heads/shoulders

i wasnt shooting this for more than fun/practice...& yes, my focusing needs works...it seems like i hit spot on maybe 60-70% of the time...cant figure out why exactly, as i use the same technique with goods & bads

im pretty sure i was using evaluative metering w/ spot AF for these...not sure why my focusing doesnt hit tack sharp...ive tried & tried & tried...any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Check what & where your active AF point was (DPP will show you), to see wether the camera missed focus or you missed the subject. Then narrow down from there.

Sometimes the AF system prefers to lock on to a (close-by) background or mic instead of the subject, for instance if that has better contrast.

Another common error is using One-shot AF and have the subject (or photographer) move between AF-lock and the shot.

To me, these look like you missed focus?
