Any bag tricks?

Anyone want to share any tricks they might have
to make moving bag dividers easier?

I'm getting tired of fighting the velcro
on a Tamrac System 12 bag.

Dear YARDBURNER,

Don’t move the dividers, instead strategically preset/layout each bag for application(s) – then bags are ALWAYS ready to go! (girl guide/boy scout motto “be prepared”)

It is just one thought (& a solution that has worked very well for me, as I want the bags working for me rather than me working for the bags. Although like bags, it’s an individual solution).

Also, I have found often the dividers(regardless of manufacturer) don't have to be totally velcroed to stay in place, thus enabling fine tuning of placement or relatively ease of repositioning.

Like most of us I have several bags for different occasions.

I picked up an older Sys 12 bag from a retired Tamrac rep
at a yard sale for $10. When it was made the lens barrels were
MUCH thinner then. No motors tends to make them skinny.

So I want to turn it into the "Footlocker" bag that everything goes
in and then I move the things into a smaller bag for that days
expected shooting. Once it gets set up it'll stay that way.

Gotta 60D, 10-22, 18-135, 70-300 (Non L), 50 1.8, a piece
of crap 35-80 MK1 for foul weather and a film body just
to play with. Hoods for all but the 50, a couple of
flashes and all of the assorted crap we all drag along.
So I figured the old bag would fit the bill.

You still gotta fight the dividers taking them out, but when putting them back in, wrap a bit of paper over the Velcro ends, position the divider, and then slide the paper out of the way, and press the Velcro in so it mates nicely - it allows you to fine tune the location of the divider, then make it stick.

That's what I eventually started doing.
I used pieces of thin cardboard to line a
compartment, moved the dividers to
where I wanted them and slid the card
stock out.

MUCH less hassle and more accurate too.

I'm also finding it much easier to nest and
stow the hoods separately from the lenses.
You stick a hood on a UWA and it really
changes the size of the compartment
needed.

I got tired of fighting the tabs as well, there are a couple dividers that I move occasionally and I took some gaffers tape and taped up all but the top and bottom half inch of the Velcro tab, that way only the top and bottom part stick, still holds in place but much easier to move.

That's a great idea. I've just been forging ahead while cursing all this time. I'll have to try that next time around.
