The barrel on my 70-200 f2.8 non IS is coming loose at the junction just behind the focus ring (it wobbles around and also moves the focal distance scale with it....the lens still works fine but I'm thinking it may eventually come apart as it continues to get worse....it's actually quite loose at this point)
Although I'm not certain, I'm guessing that there is a way to tighten it back up....any help or suggestions?
Thanks

Either ignore it while it still performs well or get on-line/call Canon repair and send it to them for an estimate.

Personally, I'll follow my general rule and keep using it until it works no more before looking further into repair. I was hoping for a relatively easy fix that I could do to hold off the "works no more" part :) I may be way off base but it just seems as if a screw or two needs tightened up.

Mine IS version 1 did something like this and one day I had 1/3 of the lens in my hand, not exactly but almost. There are some small screws under those rubber rings. I tried tighting them but no luck. This was before the whole thing almost came off. Had to spend like $250 or so to get it fixed.

This! There should be 3 small screws behind the rubber, make sure you have the right size screwdriver so you don't strip the heads. That should tighten it.
