How many people use this. I assume that you would use AEB then use Photoshop HDR to create from your 3 exposures? How does it work for waterfalls and sunsets at the beach with moving water.

Could some one post example of this in action.

Just thought of something :) As I shot in RAW would I set the same result if I changed exposure 3-7 times and saved each photo with "that" exposure and the brought them into PS?

AEB is usually not enough of a change for use with the HDR unless you can adjust for 2 stops. The best results I have had (and from a fair amount of reading) is a minimum of 1 stop difference if not 2 stops. Use a tripod and manual mode. Take one shot with a "Correct" exposure then at least one 1-2 stops over, and one 1-2 stops under. A minimum of three images is needed. You could also do 1 stop steps, but I would do two on either side of the correct one.

Most of all use the tripod and don't move the camera. Any shifting will make the whole process a failure. It is not easy to do, but can be fun to try. Good luck~

The problem would be anything that "moves" tress with wind, waterfalls and beaches with waves. What "scenes" have you used with HDR?

I agree, anything that moves is going to make it much harder. But I think it depends on how close you are. If you are takeing a photo of a tree close up and the wind is blowing 30 mph, it will not turn out well. If you are taking a landscape and all the trees are in the distance, it might work better.

Mine have all been landscape stuff with nothing real close. Good luck~

The only way to get Merge to HDR in PS to work with different develops of the same raw file is to save for the web, thereby stripping EXIF. Then you're going to have to define the difference in exposures. Also, you are cutting the raw file down to 8 bits/channel - doesn't sound like you'll be taking full advantage of HDR's capability. The best way is to manually bracket in M mode, using shutter speed to control exposure. Use a tripod, use a remote, be very careful not to move the camera. I usually take a string of photos starting at almost completely underexposed to almost completely blown, around a 8-12. I don't always use them all. I also recommend you try Photomatix (external link) as well as PS. PS HDR seems a little crude, underdeveloped. I can't wait until HDR is as robust as raw processing.

My attempts last night with raw files failed, but hey I finally got to learn to use layers in PS :)

So it get the info from exif, that would explain why I was getting "cant merge due to lack of dynamic range" message in PS.

Oh well time to try "M" mode :)

Movement does pose some "problems" but this problem exists when you are taking traditional single-exposure images in low light, i.e. longer exposure times.
IF you are trying to create an HDR of a tree in a windstorm, close up, all is lost. :D

Great shots Doug.

Keep learning, Tony.. You'll have to share what you learn at the next GKPE.
