I was wondering. Is it in any way possible to "program" a camera as follows:
- fixed aperture
- floor shutter speed
- raise iso to get correct exposure if floor shutter speed is reached
basically an advanced AV mode.

I own a 5DII but I'm fairly sure I can't do this (or I've overlooked some features). I'd be intersted to know if this is possible on other bodies.

The 1D series have this feature and I believe the 5D3 and 6D also have a version of it, but I don't think that any other Canon camera does.

The 6D will do this for sure; I read manuals.

The 60D can do it in kind. Shoot Av with AUTO-ISO. Floor shutter speed seems to be about 1/(FLx1.6). Although this mode WILL severely underexpose once MAX ISO is reached. I use AUTO ISO with Manual mode, mostly. That way I only have one parameter to watch. If ISO gets too high, adjust shutter speed. Easy.

Combine Av mode with Auto-ISO and safety shift. When the "floor" exposure time is reached, ISO increases, and when that doesn't help, then the exposure time is getting longer again.

Thank you for the replies. I don't have my camera at hand but the auto iso in M-mode doesn't work as for some reason canon descided auto is actually 400 when in M-mode on the 5DII. I will have a look at the safety shift feature, I've read about this but didn't know it was possible to combine with auto iso.

6d can definitely do this. You define the range you allow auto-iso to use, and the minimum shutter speed allowed, then the camera will choose the lowest iso available until it gets too dark, then start lowering shutter speed until it hits the minimum, then start raising iso. Really cool actually =)
