Canon Repair - Second Opinion

Anyone here send their lens in for repair at Facility X, receive a quote they thought was too high, cancelled repair, then sent lens to Facility Y for a second opinion?

I was wondering because I dropped my Canon 70-300 and I sent it to the NJ facility. None of the glass was broken, it would focus fine, but it wouldn't extend past 210mm and part of the flex circuit was protruding into the barrel. They initially quoted $200 to repair the zoom and check all functions, which I paid and authorized repair. Then a week later they sent another quote for $490 saying they needed to replace the "Zoom CAM Barrel assembly,AF Drive Unit,"IS" Lens assembly".

Needless to say at this point I cancelled the repair because its not worth it on a lens I only paid $500 for. But it is worth my time to send it to another repair facility to get another quote?

Get a quote from C.R.I.S in Arizona.

I'd be pretty pissed actually and ask for a refund - as they just wasted $200 of your money.

Get is fixed at Canon: $490+$200 = $690. You will get like-new-before-you-dropped lens for $690. Then, sell it. You may get $600 for it. Then you loss will be cut to $90 only.
