Shot wth a canon 550D, Canon 15-85 Lens, I have cropped it a little, am I on the right tracks for exposure, composition, sharpness. Thanks in advance, Andy.

This is pretty good! :)
You should be happy and look forward to fall for a composition like this. Until then I would personally crop most of the upper foliage as it is not adding much to the composition.

Did you use a tripod? Some of it seems a little soft making me think there was some camera shake.

Thanks for the feedback, Do you like this crop better, I was using a tripod but felt a slight movement on pressing the button, also didn't help much that I was perched rather precariously on a rock. Maybe I try a remote shutter system next time :D.

Remote shutter, or 2-second self-timer until you get one...

+1 on the remote shutter release. Also I would add some saturation to make the colors pop. If you are shooting in RAW then you could also tone down the highlights a bit. And some sharpening would help.

And in reality, I would crop off the left side of the image. There are some "dead" branches there that detract from the overall shot.

I like the crop.
As others stated, remote shutter or use your timer, that wont cost you anything. Since you had image editing on I gave it a whirl.
