I'm ready to move to the L world. First lens I'll replace is my telephoto. I went to a trade show last weekend and got my mind fixed on the 70-200 F4 IS: price is good, not too heavy, exceptional reviews, etc. Of course, 2 days later, I found a guy selling his 70-200 F2.8 IS Mark 1 for $1,400... Fair price, so I decided to check reviews and from what I've found, the first gen of this lens seems to be pretty soft wide open on a crop 1.6... so my question is, how bad is it really? I love the idea of 2.8 but if I'm not going to use it that open because images are worse than the 55-250 I have right now, I don't see the point of making this upgrade.
