So I have seen a lot of tutorials on edge mask sharpening, all very similar, where the composite RGB gets copied into a new channel, levels, blur, save/load channel etc. But there is just one step that I am, I guess one would say, inquisitive about. After the "find edges" command is run, why does every tutorial wait until later on to invert the mask? The reason I ask is because when you go right into "levels," you are refining your mask except contrary to your normal thought process, i.e., now you're saying to yourself, "the effect will be happening where I see black, and hidden/masked where I see white." So then, after you refine your channel, blur it, and sometimes go back into "levels" again, it is only THEN that the mask gets inverted so then you are seeing its true "intention." So my question is why not invert immediately after loading "find edges," so that you are not left to view and think backwards while you are working on it? I'm assuming there has to be a legitimate reason why, like it negatively affects the process somehow???
Curious minds want to know! Or maybe just mine.....
