Goodday dear forum members,

I am only a reader and not really a participant but I need some advise.
I have the intention to buy the 1dx. At the moment I have the 1d mark III and the 1ds mark III because 3 camera is too much for me I like to sell one and keep one as back-up but which one?

Thanks in advance,

Ruud.

For me the big thing would be would you want identical framing on your two cameras or would you want the extra reach from an APS-H? I think thats basically the deciding factor since they are both pretty well performing cameras.

Tough decision. What do you shoot mostly? That's the big question.

I would think that the 1ds3 would be the most redundant, and has absolutely no advantage over the 1dx. The 1d3 has a higher pixel density crop sensor, so potentially has a slight "reach" advantage over the x.

Personally I would sell both, find old Canon bodies, and trade the old bodies in on refurb units from the Canon USA store. The wife's 5DIII will be here on Thursday. I got an extra 15% off by trading in a 30 year old film body.

Having 1DX and 5DIII gets you basically the same AF in both bodies. Use 5dIII for landscapes, still lifes, portraits. Use 1DX for sports and wildlife (kids qualify as wildlife).

Thanks for your reactions..

I shoot events, sports, portraits and landscapes no birds and always carry 2 bodies to avoid lens changes, I hope this makes it more clear.

Great.

Sell the 1D3 and keep the 1Ds3 and pick up a 1DX.

I don't think a 1.3 10mp crop senors reach advantage over a 21mp ff and maybe only slightly over the 18mp ff(I didn't actually calculate it out just estimating on what I found for my 40D ver 5DIII).

Anyway if adding a 1DX I would keep the new higher MP/ISO 1DsIII.
