Can the EOS-M do planned action shots? Will it stop fast action?

If, for example, I park a tripod with with the EOS-M near a BMX dirt jump and have a friend stand where the riders will be in air, then Pre-focus and lock, can I then confidently take high-speed action shots without shutter lag?

Anyone have examples?

SportsI think would apply are

Baseball: (batter is always in the same location)

Auto racing: (if focused on a specific section of the track)

Soccer: (if focused on the goalkeeper, for example, since he doesn't break plane as often, especially during free kicks and corner kicks).

Table Tennis: (player rarely leaves his plane).

Thanks for any feedback. I might buy one.

Thank you. bw!

As long as the shutter speed is fast enough, I dont see why you couldnt?

Point and shoots are capable of sports photos...

I dont think the EOS M has the shutter lag of a point and shoot. As long as you pre focus, the weakest point of the camera being the AF should not have an impact on whether or not you get the shot. Set a high enough SS and use burst mode, and Im sure you can work with it. Just not sure on remote triggers.

I don't see it being a problem either if it is prefocused and in manual focus mode (to deactivate AF).

Maybe I'll pick one up. I rarely shoot action anyway. Most of my shots now are landscapes and some portraits of friends and family.

I have a cruise in a month and want something small, but love the idea of being able to rent high-end lenses on occasion, and the macro capabilities.

Anyone have any examples of sports and macro with it?

Thanks again for replies. I appreciate your time.

Thank you. bw!

Was just uploading this shot, I love how close you can focus with it!
