Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge

I will be at Captiva Isand Florida at the end of this month for about a week. I've been looking forward to visiting Ding Darling ever since I learned it was right there on the island. Looking at their website it appears that the main Wildlife Drive is closed for repair and will be closed for a while.

Is there anybody here who has been since the road was closed? Is there any other way to get around in there besides Wildlife Drive? I'm pretty bummed that it's closed while I'm there. Figures that would be my luck.

4 months to repave a 4 mile road!! --What the Heck!! are they using table knives, forks and spoons, combined with child's beach buckets to do the work If this project was being done under any other supervision than a branch of the Feds -- every Civil engineer on the project would be fired!

Agreed. That sucks. I hope you can get in by another means. Helicopter? Boat, parachute?

My runway has been closed for over 2 months while they add 1000 feet to its length. It only takes a little rain to put them behind schedule. If it "only" takes 4 months consider yourself lucky.
