My purpose of this posting was to show my reasons for staying with my new sigma, and selling my 135. It was a hard decision. After pages of reading about the lenses, I needed some images to review to help make my choice. This is what I did and the factors for keeping, buying, or selling a 135mm.

First my images shot on tripod with my 6d. I bumped the speed on the third shot, but everything else is close. I shot in RAW with zero ediitng in lr4.

First shot the 70/200 at 2.8, 100 iso, 1/1000

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

second shot the 135mm at 2.8, 100iso, 1/1000

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

the third is the 135mm at 2.0, 100iso, 1/1250 bumped by mistake.

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

next i wanted to know how much distance I might need to move around with the 135 prime to do the same with the sigma. Shot on tripod. All the three shots at 70, 135, and 200 mark on lens.

first sigma shot at 5 foot 2 inches.

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

second shot at 10 foot 9 inches.

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

third shot at 15 foot 8 inches.

HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

My factors to sell it were that I didnt have room for it in my bag, so when I packed for a shoot, it was usually left behind. Not having os was a factor, and wondering if I would have room to shoot with it, just made it easier to leave behind. But for me it was like a nice statue. Pretty to look at and own, just never used it over the other lenses i had. Buuut, I might buy it again if i see a need for it. Just not now.

Canon 1Dmark3, 6D, 17/40L, 24/70 L, 70/200 is f4, sigma 50 1.4

I had a 135L. My use was exclusively indoor/sidelines/end-court sports. My camera at the time was an APSc model. I found the 135L way too restrictive a focal length on a crop body. I sold it (and the 200 2.8L) for a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 OS HSM, and am completely happy with that decision. When it comes to that specific use.

Since acquiring a 5D, I'd love to have the 135L back. All my other lenses are completely different animals on FF versus APSc. If I were you, I'd shoot both and make very sure you don't want to keep it, before selling the 135L. Seller's remorse is somehow worse than buyer's remorse.

LOL, i already shipped it out today. If money startes rolling back in might buy another. it has a uz11 date code which made it very hard to sell also. but i made money on the lens.

I just pixel peeped the first lot of images. 135L is not only sharper than the zoom @ f2.8, it also has smoother bokeh at same aperture.

@ f2, 135L is still sharper than your zoom @ f2.8, not to mention the silky smooth bokeh.

Overall, 135L owns the zoom in terms of colour/contrast, sharpness and bokeh, no question about that.

Sure zoom gives you versatility, and if that's good enough for you, sure....
