If this is anywhere near as good as the 10-22, but with IS, that sounds amazing. Although I don't see any situation where IS would be needed on such a wide lens.

Looks great, great price too!
The firmware should make this little thing an even better travel camera.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Finally something interesting in the land of the EOS M...it's still bigger/heavier than the Oly 9-18, but it's also cheaper...Canon claims better IQ than the 10-22...that would be pretty damn impressive.

The 0.15m MFD is pretty awesome for an UWA.

If they know how to do that, why can't they give us FF users something with IQ to at least match the 10-22 :(

Well...while I've never owned a 10-22, I've played with a lot of them, and tested a lot of them back-to-back when I bought my Sigma 10-20 and then my Tokina 11-16...I don't think the 10-22 is any better than the 16-35L II, which is quite a bit faster, weather sealed, etc. This is nothing scientific, lab results may contradict my experience...but from what I've seen, I'd say the 10-22 is an excellent lens, but I'm not sure it's significantly (if any) better than the 16-35L II (though certainly superior to the 16-35L I and the 17-40L).

:P

It should read:
===============
"Further enhancing the performance and utility of the EOS M, Canon also announces today a firmware upgrade that boosts the AF shutter speed, making One Shot AF up to 2.3x faster[1]. ... once it becomes available at the end of June 2013[2]"

[1] When using FlexiZone Multi AF and the EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Speed improvement is dependent upon shooting conditions and lens
[2] The firmware upgrade also corrects a rare phenomenon that causes the EOS M controls to become unresponsive when the new EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens is used
===============

The 'up to 2.3x' is pretty heavily caveated.. I wonder what kind of improvement (hopefully there's some) using single-point AF with the efm 22mm and non-efm lenses..

Very interesting. Give me a new body with more buttons and dials, a viewfinder, and a telephoto option, and we are talking Canon.

*edit* whoa, anyone catch this little line?

We're told the lens isn't going to be available in the USA, at least for now.

Wow Canon, way to give with one hand and take away with the other.
