must take another look into the M system, looks appealing and reasonably priced.

Yes, the recent series price drops have made it a very viable option now.

I gave in to the fire sale.... couldnt resist the itch at that price. But now I kinda want the 11-22 since I do not currently have a wide angle lens for any of my cameras.

With all these EOS-M going out the door now, Canon should sell the 11-22 in the US.

same here. may consider one as well if canon continues the EF-M line. the ef-s 10-22mm WITHOUT IS is way to much.

Here are the first images I could capture last evening: developed in DPP, neutral style, noise and sharpening=0, no vignetting or geometrical corrections, DLO data not available anyway by now. 3 focal setting at two apertures, the naming explains it anyway:

I can (pre)order the 11-22 here in the Netherlands, but I can't order an EOS-M with 22mm f/2 for $299
It's some sort of paradox :(

I’m not really a landscape user, but I can see the benefits for lanscape shooting (which UWA are typically used for).

When you’re shooting landscapes you want to use the lowest ISO possible (more dynamic range), and a large enough aperture to keep the entire scene sharp and in focus. By allowing you to shoot at a shutter speed 3-4 stops slower than the reciprocal of the focal length, IS maximizes your ability to lower your ISO and stop down your aperture, while still gathering enough light to expose the shot. The alternative is to lug a tripod around, but that doesn’t always make a whole lot of sense when you’ve chosen the M for its portability.

the way i think of it, this would be a perfect set up for backpacking...lightweight...no tripod, so IS would allow for slower shutter speeds for moving water shots handheld

in my mind, saying you don't see the use of IS on an ultra wide is like saying you don't see the use of a tripod on an ultra wide

IS: had no problems to handhold 1/8s at 11mm with IS on and getting 4 out of 5 pics critically sharp. This was not possible for my hands (without leaning on something) yesterday evening with IS off. So its a nice add even to a UWA and I see no extra problem with it at this price level... Happy 11-22mm owner.

Being a real estate/property photographer, this lens is a dream come true for our smaller listings. I've looked everywhere but no one has it in stock. The ones on eBay are all preorders. Canada is out and Japan is hit or miss.

My business partner and I have been using the M for a couple of weeks now because of the price drop- being interested at the beginning we quickly lost interest at the intro price of $700-800, but when they went on sale, we bought two. I've been putting it through its paces now for close to two weeks and its nothing but impressive. The RAW file is easily as good 7Ds but not quite as clean as the 5D3s.

I now wouldn't flinch at spending $700 on this camera. I don't typically think Canon is all that smart when it comes to marketing and pricing, but if they did this to get it in the hands of people then it was a genius move because anyone looking for a solid performer is going to love this camera.

I will post some photos in the photos thread when we finish our review.

do you shoot handheld using live view? I think with a small camera with no viewfinder you'd need IS even for UW. I see IS as more of a necessity than a luxury with these little cameras.
