Walkabout is probably the wrong word; I'll say "lens in the bag". I still think the main use for my M will be as an APS-C compact. At least now I won't need to buy a UWA.

(Finally) saw an M with an 18-55 today. Interesting comparison as it was sitting right next to the recent mini product, the 100D. Anyway, having seen the image online the night before of how the 11-22 is pretty much the same size and look of the kit zoom is a nice reminder of how that's nice and compact for a UWA ...

Hopefully will get mine tomorrow. Might not be home to take delivery which will be a pain though. hmm, twiddles in thought.

Oddly the M was widely sold in the UK with the 18-55, yet in the USA it was sold mainly with a 22mm instead. Neither the 18-55 or the 11-22 have what I'd call correct manual override of focus, so be careful. With the 22mm and the camera set to Auto+MF, then turning the focus ring changes focus, you don't need to press anything. With the 11-22 and the 18-55 you have to have the shutter half pressed to allow you to manual focus! I was hoping it was a firmware bug that only affected the 18-55, but the same poor focus interaction is repeated in the 11-22 alas.
The ability to retract the lens into a smaller locked position is a very nice feature of the 11-22, and the camera does warn you and prevent picture taking if you try to use it in the retracted position.
I never found the 18mm end of any APS-C zoom to be quite wide enough to cover my architectural shot requirements and was forever changing lenses, hence I bought the 11-22 for the M. What would be ideal for the M is an equivalent of the very sharp EF-S 15-85 lens. I have used that on the M with the EF adaptor, but it makes it too bulky and defeats the object of the very thing you are after - a compact APS-C camera.
Anyway Dufflover - enjoy your new purchase :)
I'm sure there are more people than just nubu and myself that own this lens, but none have posted images here so it seems :(

Got my lens today, luckily was around when the guy came through. No shots yet though, will see if I get any opportunities on the way to or from work otherwise will have to wait till the weekend. Extending the barrel out before use will be something I need to get used to. It's kind of funny me saying that as I've said before how cool it would be if Canon had a 400mm/5.6 IS prime, but in a collapsable design that shrank it down to 70-200 size (like a 100-400). Not wanting to get into a debate about 100-400 vs the 400 btw, just thinkin' aloud (I love my 100-400 regardless ...)

Twiddling my thumbs on whether to splash another ~$40 on a B+W slim UV filter. I'm a bit weird in those stakes as well; some of my lenses have 'em, some don't.

Mine has the Hoya Pro-1 digital (slim) UV on it, so I can vouch for it not vignetting dufflover - assuming the B+W is as thin as the Hoya Pro-1 that is.

I *was* going to take somewhat of a random but still real life photo with the UWA today but realised after adjusting the exposure settings it said No memory card. LOL!
(luckily nothing photo worthy happened in the morning)

It's not much of a useful indicator, but over the last couple of weeks been struggling to find any decent subject matter to shoot with this lens but finally have one that made my Flickr cut, albeit completely meaningless in the sense of people wanting to know various things about the lens since it's final processed web size.

Strangely, I haven't not done my usual set of sharpness tests whenever I get a new lens as I like to see at aperture there is a big jump in sharpness (not necessarily the sharpest overall, but bang-for-buck in terms of light gathering). Still my current observations are from the shots I have taken and just deleted later lol:
- My lens performs very similar to robv's crops. I find it a little weird actually in that it's sharp when I review my shots because I can see the detail, but doesn't seem to have that crisp pop as some other lenses.
- Kind of related to the above point, sunstar rendering might be a little weak. I'll attach a crop soon of the camera out JPG.
- going off the above shot flare control seems pretty good, or I just got lucky. only a few minor spots here and there in the above shot zoomed in

In the end I've decided to not get a filter for it, yet. I think no particular reason other than I'm feeling stingy at the moment so I'll see how I go LOL. I don't see myself using this in beachy salty environment or anything.

Waiting for my 11-22 from an overseas ebay purchase. Purchased the whole kit (EOS-M, 22mm, 18-55mm, EF adapter) at the higher price. Was very disappointed and ready to sell the package. Did the firmware update and it is like a new camera. Love it.

My package will include the 11-22 UWA and also the 70-300 IS that I purchased for this kit. If there was an M telephoto, would have it as well.

Found the 70-300 too big and heavy for use with this camera (my taste anyway). Got the 55-250 instead. Like the weight and balance with this lens.

Pretty much the perfect travel package in my opinion.

The new update (3.13.45) of Canos DPP now includes the DLO data for the 11-22!!! Finally, it further improves the edge quality...

I found this for $369 at a local store and couldn't resist! I'll pick it up on Monday and take some winter photos. I finally have an UWA zoom again.
