I see there are few facebook threads here, but didn't see what I"m looking for. For those that have a facebook page set up for your business, which option did you choose for your page?

local business or place
artist, band, public figure

Or one of the other options?

In the context of this forum, I think the only ones that makes sense are local business, artist. And you can always change it later.
I still feel uneasy about people who use their personal profile to promote their business. In fact, I think it's against facebook tos.

Yes it is against FB TOS, there was a big todo about that a while ago when FB shut down a lot of the personal pages that were being ran like a business.

Aren't there additional features that are added to business accounts?

Which brings me to question why punish people who are already hurting themselves? What is the problem with someone promoting their sole-proprietor business on their personal page? Isn't that why all accounts have a de-friend option? I know I've used it ;-)a

Thanks guys, I defiantly don't want plan on using my personal page as the business page. I think that would be really tacky, and very unprofessional. I'm basically wanting a page to help advertise, and maybe post the ocassional tip or something.

Yes the business pages have other "features", they can also be more of a PITA if you ask me. I believe they did this in order to charge for business pages down the road (this is just my thoughts I have no facts to back it up).

What's the general opinion on someone using their personal page to one-time make "friends" aware of their business page? Or indeed friend requesting those people on the personal friends list?

Additional features like being required to pay Facebook money so that all of your 'fans' can see your post? yes.

I have a 'fan' page, as well as a personal page. It blows me away how big of a variance between the two types of pages on who actually sees your posts. FB's page system is simply a revenue-grab, and it really sucks, but that's what you get.

Having worked previously for a major social network, I realize that something has to be done to generate income, but I believe that FB's current system of limiting the audience unless a post is 'sponsored' is very deceitful and shady. That being said, I still have a fan page...
