My first decent caterpillar (and a beetle)

Haven't a clue on the species but I was taking a sunset walk down by the river this evening and was on the lookout as usual. Spotted this caterpillar feeding in the long grasses. None of these shots are cropped. The caterpillar was huge. I did have a 20mm ext. tube on which is my normal setup.

This has been cropped at the bottom but no size re-sampling done. Not sure on the species of this beetle.
