I notice with all my lenses that with superimposed delay set to ON so the focus point does a double blink when in one shot mode it takes considerably longer from the time you mash the shutter button to the time it takes the photo then if you leave this red blink turned off.

Can any of you other 6D users confirm this?

Try this:
regular shutter mode (not silent)
One shot mode
Center AF
Defocus lens to MFD
Superimposed delay ON
press shutter all the way down

Then turn superimposed delay OFF
Defocus lens to MFD
Press shutter all the way down

Do you notice a significant gain in reduced shutter lag?

EDIT:

Here is some video taken with my iphone through the viewfinder. The video itself makes it not seem that bad but in real life its a little longer than it seems. This was taken with my 85 1.8 which is still considered one of the faster lenses I own.

Any 6D owners out there? Can anyone confirm the increased shutter lag when it's set to on when compared to set to off?

I just saw your post... I haven't noticed a delay so far. Let me get awake and I'll check.

edited to add.... OK, I just did like you said. I don't have any delay. Is what you're experiencing lens specific?

I tried on all my lenses. In one shot and I notice it snaps off quicker with the light turned off than with on. Even indoor or outdoor settings

Still nobody? I'm thinking of sending my camera to Canon to look at it. It is indeed noticeably slower with the blink so I turn it off .

Can you tell me first, what is superimposed delay, and how do I turn it on and off?

It's in the custom functions menu. It turns of the double red blink of the AF point when you half press the shutter to focus and it blinks, thats it. If you turn it off then when you half shutter to focus it does not blink red when it locks on. On my camera it's noticeably quicker with it turned off.

According to the manual p303, it's called superimposed display not delay. I'll test it this weekend.

Tried it out, with all my lenses, and zooms at various focal lengths. Good light, too.

Conclusion? I'm not sure. I'm about 70% sure Talley is right - there's a small delay with Superimposed Display (C.Fn II-8) set to On instead of Off. But I'm not totally convinced. If it's there, it's a fraction of a second at most - several milliseconds, not even tens and definitely not hundreds.

Next steps? I need to set up my girlfriends SL1 to video it. And perhaps try the reverse - video the SL1 with the 6D. And try it out on my 40D... Man, seems like a lot of work for something I'm not sure even exists, and something that will affect maybe one out of every one or two thousand photos I take...

Good job to Talley for spotting this though.

All I know is with my 7D, 60D and T3i when I was using the exact same lenses and I was in one shot mode and the red blink was turned on it was instant. Sometimes when I pressed the shutter the camera mirror would flip up and take the shot before I seen the red blink it was fast. Looking at the specs found on thedigitalpicture:

Canon EOS Rebel T4i / 650D 75ms
Canon EOS Rebel T3i / 600D 90ms
Canon EOS 60D 59ms
Canon EOS 7D 59ms
Canon EOS 6D <60ms
Canon EOS 5D Mark III 59ms

You can see that the 6D is suppose to be on par with the other cameras and compared to my 7D it is not. It takes a tad longer, not a second, not a fraction of a second and i'm sure it's milli seconds something but it does take longer.
