Last night I tried to connect my brand new S110 to the iPhone. I followed the instructions to the letter. Enabled the wi-fi on the camera. The iPhone 4S detected the camera. I clicked on the new access point on the iPhone, entered the pin that the camera generated. The iPhone recogized the pin, since it let me click on "Join" button.

Nothing after that. The iPhone connect was spinning and spinning, and then the camera timed out.

I repeated the same thing with the iPad, the latest model. The same result. Then I tried to make the camera to see my home wi-fi. It worked, and I could see the camera photo on the iPhone/iPad. But not using the camera as the access point.

Has anybody been able to successfully connect the camera to an iPhone or an iPad?

I was confused just like you. I wish canon would fix this, but you will never see a check mark on the iPhone. While it's spinning, launch the Canon app, give it a minute and it should connect.

I just tried - it worked like a charm. You are right, Canon should have stated that in its manual.

But then there is an interesting thing. The raw files as seen on the iPhone are very fuzzy. The jpgs, on the other hand, are very good. So I either have to switch from raw to jpg, or not to use the iPhone. Not good!

All the iPhone's viewing is the embedded JPEG thumbnail. It lacks the horsepower to actually handle a full RAW file. For that matter, all you'll see on the viewing screen of your camera is that same embedded JPEG.

I've been shooting RAW+Jpeg specifically for those times I want to import an image to my iPhone on the go.

Can you imagine Lightroom on the iPad with Raw processing abilities? Man that would make me happy.

Yeah, I figured it out that all I need is raw for the LightRoom, plus a small Jpeg for sharing. The difference is the memory card capacity turned out to be under 10 percent.

Not with the full RAW. But with a down-sized DNG? Oh, yeah. When they announced that offline editing/smart previews feature (external link) in LR5, I immediately thought--iPad app on the way... and then:

Short version: They're working on it.

I'm a woman. I shoot with a Fuji X100T, Panasonic GX-7, Canon 5DmkII, and 50D. flickr stream (external link)
