Here's a couple more from my South Island trip in mid September 2005. It was early spring, with a late heavy snow fall.

The pics aren't as nice as Mat Fitzsimmons: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=128077
But it is the same location.

Pretty much a whiteout, which I had never been in before.. It was my first day I can remember of being snowed upon.
Two hours earlier, I had woken up to find my car in a mess...

The dog with the church behind.

If only the sky was clear, I would have had a better idea of how to take photos. :p
BBRRRR it was cold.

Always a next time? Haha, it involves about 20 hours driving by car, and also a 3 hour ferry trip. I might be back there mid year.

I really have to move to the South Island to get some decent shots like yourself.

Glad you liked it.

And welcome kiwibloke. Maybe you should come home soon. ;)

ta

It's been over 40 years since I traipsed and slid through the snow and ice at Tekapo.

In the autumn we used to take walks up Mount John (to the observatory) and were walking through a thick carpet of beautiful golden leaves.

Your photo skills would show wonders from there in that colourful environment - you have that special touch.

We found a light meter in the church entrance once. I wonder what happened to it?

ahhhhh

thanks Wazza

Beautiful! My mom's dream trip is to go to New Zealand, and after seeing all the beautiful scenes from there, I may just have to go with her!

Thanks

You've given me a new business idea.

With all the people interested in coming to NZ, I could offer very cheap guided tours, share some glass, take some shots.

when we went to the South Island 24 years ago the only place I can remember is the church and the dog. Those shots bring back some good memories

Not around Auckland Mike. We're at 36 degrees South from the equator. This place is about 1400km further South.

It's moderately warm at the moment, locally 6:30pm
75 °F / 24 °C

;)

I can feel the cold in your pictures. I like them very much. Is the church in use anymore? What is the story about the dog statue?
