What would that mean for all the current lenses in use on the market today? I'm planning on getting a 7D with some nice lenses but don't want to invest too much if they won't be scalable to different platforms down the road. What say you??

The EF system is going to stay around for a long long time... heck it's been around longer than I've been alive!

Canon has gone mirrorless. The EOS-M is pretty much a flop for Canon. They are so far behind that it looks as if they even gave up and have put out their small camera offering , the SL1

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

It's been said before and I'll repeat it. Buy what you need today and don't worry about tomorrow. If tomorrow comes, sell what you don't need and buy what you need then.

Too many folks agonize over the gear their using and what the future holds. I can tell you that, not just regarding photography, things in the future sometimes change in ways you'd never expect. So just buy what you need today and use it. Spend less time worrying about the gear and more time worrying about actually using what you have.

Very good point......I'm probably getting too far ahead of myself.

I still use Yaschica C/Y bodies and glass. They haven't been made for over 30 years. If my EF stuff lasts that long, I'll be so old I won't know when it quits working anyway.

I don't shoot film, but I've bought several Yashica lenses and lenses from other mounts too, all work on my EOS M

OP, you're worrying way too much about this, just get what you need when you need it ;)
