why do the png files on my site load slow?

I noticed some files did and some didnt, and i have narrowed it down to the fac that its the png ones loading slow. in some cases they are half the size or less than the jpg that load fast.

When you say "half the size" you mean actual size in bytes or size in dimensions?

And are these PNGs photos or graphics (icons, backgrounds, etc)?

Photos. In size I meant bytes. One is a logo and the others are pics.
But the dimensions are also equal to the jpegs too. Just like 1/2 the size in bytes. I fixed it so they load a little faster but they still load slow.

Seems to be from google searches this is a problem with png files but I didnt really understand all the tech talk after that.

Any particular reason why your photos are PNG?

I don't fully understand the technical aspects of this topic but I've learned that PNG is better for illustrations/text/icons whereas JPG is better for photos.

It could be your browser. What is your site?

I'm sorry for not replying, alpha I made 1 file a circle and the other has a ripped border effect and the only way I could keep the background transparent was .png.
I think I got them to load a little faster, instead of resizing them when inserting them I resized hte file itself
teh site I am building is abbymalonephoto.com

my logo is a .png, the dog in the clover is a png and on the services page the 3 circles are.

This is a simple fix. Use a jpg image with a border that matches the background color, then you won't need the png for transparency.

Also, most, if not all, of the images on the homepage are much too big. I can see they link to the original size. They should be sized to exactly what's needed for proper web optimization. You should have duplicate images, but in various sizes as needed.
