Hey, I've noticed that when I manually select the outer focus points on my 5D3 the images tend to be very soft/out of focus. This is with a 70-200 2.8 IS II. It happens when it is wide open and it'll become sharper around f5+. I don't have any other lens to test.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Here are a couple different shots... you can view original size by clicking the bottom right magnifying glass twice.

Focus point on the "ZT"

They look good to me. But keep in mind... since you used photobucket, these images have degraded in quality and sharpness. Use something like Flickr to share images :).

Also, you said you are using the outer points. Are you using the cross type points?

You can view the original size (5760x3240) on photobucket.

Forgot to add that... yes, I have cross-type AF points only turned on.

I had a few points on my 7d that was weaker or softer. Canon can recalibrate them If needed
