When I am posting my pictures they never look like in my monitor, I guess it loses quality, they look grainy, and there`s got to be some factors like cropping it before posting and things like that, I`am resizing to 800 pixels on the longest size, I also went to photobucket and they do it for you. so I don`t know what the hell I`m doing wrong, this is an example:

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Byte size: ZERO | PHOTOBUCKET ERROR IMAGE

WHY IT LOOKS LIKE THAT?:o

Hello Dalia,

It looks a little like your image is being resized twice...or photobucket is doing some other crazy processing to your image. Hard to say since I don't have the 800 x 533 image that you uploaded to compare. I'd be glad to comment if you don't mind sending that to me directly though. Use photobucket@dsnyder.ws-e.com (external link).

This a nice shot. You did not ask for suggestions, but I would recommend recomposing with the subject to the right of center. Having the subject's body facing the outside edge of the frame creates tention that you probably did not intend. Also, if there's enough light, shooting with a larger aperature (50mm at f/5.6, for example) will help to blur out the background a bit more.

Hope this helps.

this is what I did, I resized it first with photoshop to 800pixels, then uploaded it to photobucket and I know they resize the pictures too.

I`ll be more than happy if you could show me what you recomended me to do with the picture

My guess is they don't resize it but resample the quality., Like saving a jpeg as low quality so that it reduces the size of the file. It is still 800 pixels wide but it's the quality that's poor.

Not sure if you do it or not but after you resize apply a small amount of USM to the photo. It tends to make them really stand out on a monitor. Just be careful, a little goes a long way. :)

Photobucket like other sites that resize does it in a very crude way.
but they only resize for file size, not for image physical size.

I think the limit is 200kb for photobucket? And anything above that they either reject, or auto resize.

There is any easy way around it, once you have resized in PS to 800 on the longest side apply some USM.
I have an action set up in PS that resizes to 800, then applies a USM setting that I have found works on 90% of my photos, and then adds a frame with some EXIF info.

Then you just have to save as, choose JPEG, and when it asks for compression level lower it enough that the image is around 100-150kb in size.

That way the photo is the right size for the forum, and the file is the right size for photobucket, and it won't mess with the image. :)

So long and thanks for all the flash

I also use "photobucket". I think Photobucket only resizes and resamples if the photo is over 512KB. For POTN your photos need to be below 100KB. I try to always add a little extra USM before "saving for web" in PSCS2 that way you control the size. Again, don't let Photobucket take your photos below512KB, you should do that in Photoshop.

Dalia, Do they look ok on your monitor after you resize them or only in the original format? I see you used ISO 200 and stepped up the exposure compensation on what looks like a sunny day. That additional brightness may make the grainy look more visible, but I'm no pro, just trying to help. Are you shooting in the Highest Quality?

yes, they look very good in my monitor, I am shooting the higher quality, I think you`re right I seen that before with the brightness. I just post the original and I think looks much better, But there`s still something wrong.

Dalia read the above and try to save the file at around 100k i size so that the web site you post them to does not resize them

I think you are using too much compression when you save the JPEG. Most of your your photobucket images are pretty big and only range from like 50K to 100K. That is a lot of compression without going back after you save and add some USM or something. The next time you resize, check what the JPEG optimizer (can't remember if that's what its called in Photoshop). I know when I shoot a JPEG at highest quality, it will be every bit of 500-1000K when I resize it and save with minimum compression.

You must remember that JPEG is a lossy compression so everytime the file is save a small part of the previous version is lost. Its to be expected. But don't use save for web and then use USM and save cause you'll loose even more data from the file.
