Hi guys, I have owned the g1x for a little over a year. It has recently started weird behaviour whereby it locks up after I've taken a few shots with bracketing turned on. The screen goes grey, the lights stay on but nothing happens. To turn the camera off I have to remove the battery.

The battery has been freshly charged so it can't be a power issue.

WOndering if anyone has any ideas about why this may be happening and how I can fix it.

Since I live in a different city from the shop who sold it to me, and it's over a year since purchase, I can't really take it back.

Thanks in advance for advice,
Jo

How far past a year is it?
There has been times when Canon has taken a product and repaired it free, even out of warranty. No guarantees on that though but it may be worth pursuing if you can't figure out a simple fix.

Thanks for replying. The retailer has stated on their website that it's a 12 month warranty. I bought this in April 2012.

I have contacted the retailer to see what they suggest but am hoping someone here may drop by with a "yeah that's a such and such issue, just press that button" suggestion meantime. I hate the thought of having a dud model that is out of warranty if the retailer doesn't help me.

Wouldn't hurt to send an email to Canon and see what they say about it. It's worth a shot...

Try a system reset from the main menu and be sure to format the card in the camera.

Yes, that's what the Canon rep suggested and today I had some freeze-ups but not to the extent of removing the battery. I was able to turn it off and on ok.
Still an issue though as I don't want to be resetting constantly and losing my preferences.

You should have to reset only once.
