Now, that ive almost completed my lens setup, i am searching for the ultimate 50mm lens.

Covered from 16-35, 40, 135mm i got everything i need. But as i am time to time disappointed by the sigma 24-70 i'm trying to find a good replace. As i also want to work more with primes because i like them more, i think i should jump on the 50mm train.

However, i thought about the Canon 50mm 1.0!

How much would i have to pay for this lens?
I saw one at ebay today for more than 5k $.

Seems pretty much to me what would be normal street price?

Not this again....

Didn't you ask people to rate the 50s last time around?

What exactly are you looking for? What do you shoot? I guess you obviously want large aperture ?

If you are disappointed by the Sigma 24-70, why not 24-70II?

50 1.0 is no longer servicable by Canon I believe, and for that price you can get 50L + Zeiss 50 MP + 24-70II...

There is a shop that has one here in HK for US$5.5k. That is "street" price I suppose.

No like i said, the problem is i want a fast lens, since my fastest lens is f/2.

Also i dont want a zoom lens for that range, i can live with one 50mm as everyday lens.

Okey then i sadly have to jump on the 1.2 :(

however a halfstop doesnt makes so much difference at that range...

The EF 50 1:1.2L USM is 2/3 stop slower than the EF 50 1:1.0L USM, but that is not the most significant difference between the lenses.

50L it is then. Best current 50mm AF lens from Canon money can buy.

Having said that I used to be a 50mm person too and still own Sigma 50 and Zeiss 50 MP, but now that I have the Sigma 35, I am loving it more and more.

35mm PoV is the new 50mm as a general one lens solution imho. Not to mention a much more usable focal length on your crop 650D as well.

50L @ f1.2 is soft (erm I mean dreamy) as hell. One of my colleague who owns the 50L wants to dump his lens straight away after he saw this -

His 50L is nowhere near as sharp @ f1.4 no matter how hard he tries, not even remotely close :p

I already have the 16-35, and for 35 mm it is enough for me. i want a bit more focal length also as general purpose lens...

Sounds like you don't really have a budget. Just get a 50L and be happy. Best production 50 out at the moment all things considered IMO.

I'd stick with the basic Canon EF 50mm (MkII) f/1.8, excellent quality for really little money;

Leica R 50/1.4 or Leica R 50/2. Many say the 2 best 50's ever made.

Why not the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ZE Planar T*? No, it's not the fastest lens, but it definitely gives a unique look to photos made with it.

Although if you really want the fast 50mm now, you could always sell off your gear, get a Leica and buy the 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M (external link). :p :D
