I have a stretcher frame that will give me a 16x20 finished wrap so my size in LR is actually 19x23 to allow for the sides.

However I have a shot of Mike Weir that I need to get to a 19x23 without his putter being on the fold.

How the heck do I do this, I tried Perfect Resize but that doesn't seem to help.

I am at a loss on how to do this, I need to get this done for a client asap.

You probably are going to have to clone in some more green on the left side of the image. Either that or convince the client that the image cant be cropped to that size and order a more appropriately shaped image ratio.

Is that the complete image at the top, or a crop?

Since you are using perfect resize, it automatically takes care of that with gallery wrap option.
Don't worry about 19x23, Just think 16x20 and feed to PerfectResize let it compute for you. Then choose your frame width (1.5" for your case), it has a gallery wrap option, that does blank, clone or mirrored clone on wrap area. choose what pleases you. I like "mirrored clone".

The issue is that when I do a Perfect Resize say at 16x20 I bring it back into Lightroom thats why I have Lightroom adjust to 19x23 for the sides, then what happens then is his golf putter ends up on the fold and thats not good.

You see the measurement I need to put on the frame is 19x23 unless I am missing something which I probably am....

thats why I quit doing my own...I send then out now and if I need 16x20, I send a file sized to 16x20 and they add the correct amount of border so that my image fits perfectly on the front.:D

I hate it when my putter is on the fold....

So this is what I would do:
Open original image in PS and crop to 16 x 20, (leveling the horizon)
Select All, Copy, Paste to duplicate layer.
Set canvas size to 19 x 23.
Sample a background color from the image and fill the background layer with it.
Print it and stretch it, being careful to line up the edge of the photo with the stretcher.

You could also pay a retoucher to extend the canvas (via cloning) for you? I think Retouchup.com will do this for like $10.

I'd do much as magoosmc has shown you, except on each side I'd sample maybe 2 inches of the closest edge, reverse it and use that instead of the plain green colour. Maybe I'd think about adding a little blur to the copied sections.

That's actually what we mean when we talk about cloning. Its easy to do. I've done a very rough example, purposely allowing an edge to show so hopefully you can see whats been done?

Yea, with places like http://www.canvasondemand.com (external link) it is usually more cost efficient to just send it out. I have used the above company a few times and have been very happy. Just crop the image to the size of the frame and send it to them. They also often have a groupon of 50% off.
