OK I only have the money for one of them at the moment. As can be seen from my signature I have a fair selection but only the 17-40 which at f4 is a little slow for indoor shots.

I use mostly for portrait/documentary style shots of my my 2 and 4 year old at play. Has anyone been in the same situation and which one did you buy first. I have lusted so much over the 135mm f2 for 2 years but now I have seen such great comments about the Sigma 35mm 1.4 rather than the 35mm L lens.

I want both eventually but one has to wait......so which one waits and which one do I immediately go for ??

Thanks

I'm a 135L guy so I would start there. The 35mm length just doesnt appeal to me as much, but its really personal preference.

It's a tough one, but seeing that you have wanted the 135 for two years now I would get that one first. I love mine :).

That is a tough one since you already have an 85 and a 50.

I vote 135... there is just something magic about what that lens produces :)

I too would go for the 135L first.

That would also give time for the newness fanfare of the Sigma to where-off a little. Then seeing if there are any (hopefully not) longer term issues with the Sigma 35mm and if "everyone" is still in love with their S35.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

I'd go with Sigma 35.

I see you own 70-200 2.8, 135L will be redundant once the novelty factor wears off.

I know because I was in the exact situation before ;)

I was in the same situation, and shooting the same subjects (2 and 4 year old). I missed my sig 30mm on the 7D I had, I used that lens nonstop for inside shots, so I thought it would be an easy decision and I would go for the 35. However, I took the gamble and got the lens I had been drooling over for so long, the 135. I love it, no regrets. Great for outside shots. Do you want to use your new lens more for outside or indoors?

I'm still drooling over the 35. So, whatever you pick, you had better start saving for the other one. I know I am.

+1. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned before the 7th post.

Kids 35mm. You already got 70-200mm f2.8, 85mm f1.8.

Since you already got the 70-200, absolutely get the S35 first.

Then later you could wait little longer for autumn and see if Sigma will release their brand new 135mm f/1.8 DG OS Art lens. I don't know about you but for me a brand new 135mm f1.8 lens with OS and rounded 9-blade aperture sounds awesome and will most likely beat the 1996 Canon 135L in image quality quite easily. Of course this is not proven yet as reviews do not exist, but that's what I would like to think :p. And despite the 135L' beeing perhaps the best bang for buck for all Canon L-lenses, this new Sigma could potentially drive the 135L's price even more downwards. :)

I would say 135 because you've been wanting it for so long, but because you already have a 70-200 2.8 and nothing fast and wide, I say get the S35 first.

Thanks all for your fantastic comments and rationale behind them. Seems a bit of a split between the two so far. I hadn't even thought of a new 135mm Sigma release being on the cards maybe ??? Keep em coming !!!

135 is nice but you'll have to stand far away from your subjects and you'll have to stand kind of close with the 35. I have both and tend to use my 85 more for portrait type work. I don't use my 35 as much since I got my 85.

If you were shooting models I would have said 135L but for kids like I said before 35mm is much better.

Here is 135L
