To be honest, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with such a fine camera body, but I am curious if there was any regret with the loss of reach since it's a full frame sensor.

I've been using two 7D's for several years and have decided to take the plunge and and join the ranks of the 1D family. I was just about ready to convince myself to invest in the 1DX until I realized it was full frame. The lV is a 1.3 crop factor so I just couldn't bear to give up that reach with my 300. I shoot a lot of football and baseball and already can see the difference using a friends lV.

Hence, my question for those sports photographers who made the upgrade...how was it losing that reach?

I use Canon gear...have several bodies and lenses and am quite pleased with them.

i'd figure worst case scenario if you really need the reach grab a 1.4x or 2x TC after that I can't see anyone having buyers remorse over a 1DX. I've borrowed one to shoot sports before and knew from the moment I started using it that if I were to buy one that no way would I ever need another body again for a LONG time.

The camera is just a tool - it is not responsible for the picture.

I know of one POTN member that sold his 1DX because he preferred the 1D4, but he didn't elaborate on what exactly he preferred. (1Dx was listed in the for sale section)

I shoot sports a lot and love my X. Great at high ISOs and 12 fps is nice. The auto focus system is terrific and that is a big deal when your subjects are moving quickly and changing direction just as fast. With the FF, I rarely use my 300mm anymore and now just use the 400mm f/2.8L IS II because of reach issue with FF. Adding a 1.4x TC III isn't a problem if I need to go really long focal length. It's certainly better than the old 400 f/2.8 IS with the TC II. I've kept my 1.3 crop 1D Mark IV as a second body. When shooting a sports event, I give careful thought to which body will go with which lens but once I've decided, I forget about it and just shoot. The 1D Mark IV is a splendid body and I'll be keeping it for a long time.

Bottom line: No buyers remorse for me.

None here but wish I had just bought two versus one 1Dx and one 5D3 *use for portraits* BUT I had to pull on the reins to justify my hobby *lol*, I shoot indoor racket sports I might have to add a 400 or 500 for when I shoot outside field sports :p

I actually dropped the fps to 10

I looked at the D4 but wanted to stay with SAME card slots...my 5D3 SD slot is used for a painfully slow eye-fi card...most likely by Christmas i'll add that second 1Dx.

I just got tired of cleaning noise off my 7D shooting inside...outside it's just beautiful but inside it really is a noise monster at most things above 6400.

*thanks to Julian for helping me make up my mind on the 1Dx*

Absolutely no remorse from this end! Simply put I love the 1DX. I shoot sports and my only remorse is not purchasing it before. I have a 7D as well, and lately it just inside the Pelican case with other lenses. I like the high ISO sensitivity, the focus cases, the speed and the flexibility it brings forward.

Cheers,

Charlie

No remorse here either. I do sometimes miss the reach of the 1D4. Make do with the 1.4x extender when the extra reach is needed.

Not even an ounce of buyers remorse. I bought 2. I can't imagine what I did before this camera. I honestly feel like I have a secret weapon in my industry. Amazing picture quality, user interface, auto focus, low light performance.... I really don't know what more I could ask for.

Read Art Wolfe's blog on switching to 1DX.

While I miss the reach a little, the 1dx actually retains more detail in cleaner files at higher ISOs. Therefore, I rarely find cropping to be limiting more than with the 1d4. At base ISO, sure the 1s4 and 7d would be a better choice for focal length limited situations. However, take in totality I gained much more than I lost.

I bought a 1DX and sold it and went back to my 1D mk iv, why, well I shoot wildlife and lead Safaris in Africa and love the additional reach the 1.3x sensor provides. To me for my shooting environment the the APS-H sensor provides the best of both worlds, I can shoot wildlife as well as landscape and I did not see the value in paying an additional $3k and for landscape work I now use a 5D mkiii
Again my needs are specific and the 1dx is an excellent body and I never had any issues with its performance.
