Colchuck Lake

A friend and I did a run up to Colchuck Lake the other weekend to scope out hiking conditions. We got to the lake early in hopes of a great sunrise, but didn't get lucky.

The temperature was about 70 that day and the trail was snow free to the lake. The photo is looking towards where the trail continues which was too icey for us that day. Aasgard pass is at the end of the lake on the left of the frame. It's the route that leads to the famed Enchanyment lakes.

Great shot, none the less, Robert. Where's the trailhead for this? I've never heard of this lake before.

Great shot Robert and I like the weather like that, seems to work well. I really need to get up into the mountains more and shoot.

The trailhead is off of icicle creek road, outside of Leavenworth. I believe it is officially called the Stuart Lake trailhead.

So many great mountains in the area. I am excited to get out this year and do some more landscape work. Let me know if you want to go out with us sometime.

I just may take you up on that! I know my girfriend isn't down for a nine-mile hike unless there is a Nordstroms at the end of it.

Sounds good, just PM me if/when you want to go. I try and go somewhere every weekend. Normally I'm out the door between midnight and 2am on Friday and back sometime on Saturday. In the past couple months I have been to the Oregon Gorge twice, Leavenworth twice, Olympic NP once, Winthrop once, and Mt St. Helens once (all nighter on weeknight to shoot stars, ouch). On my radar for the near future is Rainer, Oregon Coast, Palouse, and a number of alpine hikes once they are snow free.

If anyone else happens to read this post and wants to go with feel free to PM me as well.

Yeah, Colchuck lake does reflect nicely. It will look even better once the lake finishes thawing. In the summer months the lake is deep blue. I believe it's the Glacial silt that helps give the lake it's normally deep blue color.
