hi there
i haven't ever really toured this area of the forum, but recently my (very) old desktop monitor died and so I am aiming to get a new one
and started learning a bit about the new technologies out there
so I am pretty sure that I am aiming for an IPS screen
and in my "neck of the woods" i have a copuple choices out there
but i kind of like the looks in general of the dell ultrasharp series
now, i can go cheaper like the 2312 or the 2412
which have 6 bit color
or i can go for a monitor which is almost 2.5-3 times more expensive (the dell 2413) which has all sorts of color options including 10 bit color

IIRC, the 7d outputs 8 bit color - so will I notice a difference ifget a 6 bit screen instead of a 10 bit screen? Assuming that i calibrate the monitor for color (and every one listed above to the best of my knowledge holds calibration well), is there a benefit in getting the AH-IPS vs the e-ips (i am not that advanced in learning about these technologies to know the differences yet)

any other comments or suggestions of course would be welcome
including
other models in the 23-24 inch realm
16:10 vs 16:9 ratio debate for photography uses

other uses of the computer: home use - microsoft office, web browsing, homework, movies, and photography of course. (no video really...just stills)
i hope i was able to anticipate enough questions....
thanks

I have a Dell U2412M (16x10) monitor. I have nothing better to compare the IQ to but I am pleased with what I see as an improvement over my older HP 2311x, 23" 16x9 monitor.

I find the 16x10 to be a real improvement over the 16x9. Viewing vertical images it just gives you a bit more that really helps.

do internet searches on "best photography monitor" and you will get many sites where you can review reviews and check prices. For me as a Mac user, I go with the Apple Thunderbolt display. But that monitor is of little use to folks not using Macs.
