i'm very happy with the outcome of this shot, but I'm interested in hearing what you guys think and how I can improve.

Fire Bike (external link) by Jcareyphoto (external link), on Flickr

this was my first or second time trying to composite multiple exposures as a sort of light-painting of the motorcycle. shot with my 50 1.8 on my 5d2, there are 18-20 pops of a speedlight in a softbox to highlight various parts of the bike. the flame was done in 2 exposures (foreground and background) by tying a rope to a metal pole, soaking it with lighter fluid, and taking a match to it then walking around the bike.

I wish I had wet down the whole area with water and not left patches dry like the bottom right and middle left of the ground, but I had run out of water from the giant jug I brought. also, the bike has about 6-8" of stretch from an extended swingarm, but it looks almost stock length here.

let me know what you think, lay it on me!

I don't get very excited by car/bike pics, but this is very inventive, thanks for sharing!

Nice work. Only thing I can think of is, that nice image on the front of the faring has some reflection on it. Do you have a shot without the reflection that you can mask in?

unfortunately, no. i messed with that for a while and nothing looked right. I got rid of the other large hot spots, particularly on the tank, layer-by-layer, but that was the only exposure that I lit the cowl.

The only thing I can think of is to put a gorgeous red-head on it.
Nice work.

The idea of a burning rag on a pole is very cool! I might steal that from you.

Excellent work, I really like it.

oh I'm a HUGE fan of top gear, and yes, that is a massive compliment, thank you!

ManiZ, the idea wasn't mine, there are a couple of tutorial videos on youtube that I adapted to what I had access to.

Thanks again for these links. I'm curious what type of rope you used. The tutorial suggests Kevlar but I'm having a hard time finding it.
