Great job Lloyd..........did you finger feed them
Thanks Ted, I didn’t but my friend hand fed a Magpie before I got the camera out. When she had finished feeding it the Maggie stood and warbled right at the back door. It was pretty special to have one standing right in front of you doing that. Go HERE
to listen to them warbling, the best one is about halfway through the clip. It is an iconic Australian bush sound that we all grew up listening to. Where I grew up we had literally thousands of them and they would wake us at dawn every day with that warble. It was a great way to wake up I can tell you. It is one of those nice childhood memories that stay with you for life.

Awesome shots, Lloyd! So are the Kookaburras rather tame?
This one was not all that old Ian and has been getting fed daily since a wee one. My friend feeds them every day and they just flock in. At one stage we counted over 20 Lorikeets at the feeder.

Wow! You have some beautiful birds and great shots...
Thank you
I’ll say, I can’t wait to visit again!
Thank you, glad you liked them

great photos- I thought they only lived in old gum trees
They do Bob but also go anywhere they can. I have even seen them on electrical cables. As long as there’s food around they’ll be there on whatever they can

I'd love to get that close to a Kookabura; unfortunately, there's that large body of water between me and there Great job capturing it!
Haha, yes Eric, a fair distance! Agree about getting close, that is the closest I have been to one and I grew up in the bush where they were everywhere. They are good for keeping the snakes under control.

Gorgeous birds. What are you feeding these birds? It must be good to draw them in that close. LOL
Thanks, The Lorikeets get a seed mix from the pet shop and believe it or not the Kooka gets dog food – the fresh sort. It comes in like a breakfast sausage shape and size and my friend just cuts chunks off and throws it to the Kooka but the Magpie comes and takes it out of her hand, which is pretty amazing for a wild bird. I just wished I had the camera out when that happened.

I wanna have lunch with you! Excellent photos!
Thanks, come on over Gail, you would be more than welcome! The one thing this visit has done for me is I am definitely getting another feeder. I have avoided them after one I built brought in rats to the property, plus I like the birds to feed naturally and not rely on handouts. But after chatting to my friend (who is an avid bird nut) the right seed really does them no harm, in fact it helps them in the leaner times through winter. We always plant bird attracting natives as well which helps them along. We try to get a mixture of plants that flower through the year and supply food right through. My only other problem is our next door neighour has a cat and I have caught it sneaking up on birds in our courtyard area. I have sprayed Cat-Off all around to deter it.
Thank you.

Unexpected guests for lunch? That's OK, they're unexpectedly pretty too!
What a hoot Lloyd. That Kookaburra is a riot and as cute as a button. Love the colors the Lorikeets bring too. The last of the RL is awfully nice.
Thanks Steve. I swear the Kooka was smiling at me haha
Thank you.
