Looking for a bunch of samples from those who have used the 24-70 II for weddings. There is not a lot of samples of weddings with this lens that Ive found. Also, do you find its decent for first dance shots with the lights down low or do you prefer to use a prime?

I kept my version 24-70 version1. Tend to use my primes more anyway but the 24-70 is always on a body at receptions. Seems like the important stuff like dance shots we go with primes and shoot shallow

There may not be many wedding samples with the 24-70 Mk II lens but that's more to do with the fact that most people are still shooting with the original 24-70 than this lens not being suitable for weddings.

Some people will prefer primes but I am sure there are also loads of people out there using the 24-70 as their bread and butter lens for weddings, I am certainly one of them, well over half the shots I take at a wedding are taken with the 24-70.

24-70 + full frame body is a great wedding combo.

Ever since I bought the 24-70 mk II it's been used on every wedding and engagement session I've shot.

24-70II is by far the best zoom lens from both indoor and out :)

I have some stuff at home I can post later. Its just a sharp (slightly overpriced) 2.8 zoom....anything you see online at 1000PX or less is going to look just like any other sharp 2.8 zoom. Is it OK for the first dance? Sure as long as there is enough light. I only do a handful of weddings a year but its 24-70 and 70-200 all day. I only break out my one fast prime if its getting really dark...

I sold my 24-70L MKI a long time ago and prefer to use primes. However looking at how good the MKII is, I am always tempted to try it once again. But every time that happens, I end up buying something else.

I'd say it would be absolutely fine for weddings.

the 24-70 focal length is fantastic for weddings. if i had to i would be able to shoot an entire wedding with that lens.

I would say 90% of this video from my last wedding was done with the 24-70 II, with the exception of the portraits which were 85II

Cant decide between the 24-70 II or Sigma/Canon 35 1.4 and Canon 50L /Tamron 24-70 VC. Alot of choices.

I just did a rehearsal tonight, I bought a 5d and the 135mm *to compliment my 50, 85mm and 24-70mm lenses* and used it with the first run through. With the second run through I switched to my T2i and 24-70 and preferred using the one set and not changing lenses. So thats the plan tomorrow, entire ceremony with the 24-70, with the 135 for a few closeups during the sermon part when time isnt an issue.

the last wedding I did I only used the 24-70 and found it adequate *cept for needing a bit more reach for a few parts.

I only have the mI, but it sounds like the mII is worth getting and making it my primary lense and keeping the mI for a backup since I use that lense 99% of the time. :)

Here are a few examples from my last few weddings with the 24-70L II. Personally, I always have this lens on one camera body and then combine it with a prime or the 70-200 2.8II on another body. This works well for me, not right or wrong by any means. I personally like the versatility of the 24-70 to be ready and available when needed though.

I tried to cover a variety of everything throughout the day below from lighted to natural light. I also always light the first dance so I have no low light shots with the 24-70, I don't know if 2.8 will cut it for that without a flash. I will fire off a few with a prime (usually 50 1.2) and no lights but the rest is with the 24-70II or the 70-200 and either one backlight or 2-3 bounced lights (switching back and forth). The one below is a backlight only. I had the 24-70L version I for a while but was never a that big of a fan, however I am very happy with the version II. It is a bit of a blah focal length and I was hoping to fall in love with it like I did the 70-200, which I didn't, but it gives you a lot of flexibility to capture the moments when needed as space tends to become a premium at some weddings.

I also have the Sigma 35 1.4 and use to have the Canon 35L, however I rarely take/took either out of the bag. DOF isn't a big enough difference for me at 35mm vs. 2.8 when your standing 15-20' away (I don't like to be in people's faces). I do use the 35 1.4 a lot during some engagement sessions when it's ok to be in their faces. The 50L however is my go to prime during the wedding day, although I wonder if I owned an 85L if it would be that instead....... hmmmm more money to spend in the near future

I LOVE the 24-70II. Sharp, the colors are vibrant and true. I still love a 35 prime but it's so nice to be able to use that lens and know you'll get great shots. I HATED the first 24-70.

I used it a lot at this one - http://www.mairimagesphotography.net …n-wedding-photographer-2/ (external link)

I love my old 24-70L but hear that that 24-70L II is even better. I have shot whole weddings and other events using the 24-70 version 1, so using the new version must be even better.
