Apologies for the number of posts - shot my first live acts this weekend at a festival in Manchester! Didn't think it was worth making a thread for each act... I normally do nightclub stuff so this put me a little out of my comfort zone. Haha, totally blagged the job to be honest! Critique is more than welcome.

Unfortunately not much of a turn out for him but Johnny Marr was fecking awesome! Most of these were taken on a £99 Sigma 70-300! Massive bargain - my first long zoom and bloody love it.

For a first time shooting concerts, these are pretty great! But you should number the images in each post, it makes it easier to discuss them.

My favorites (in numerical order per post - not file name):

Post 1: #1 (even though the bottom of the guitar is cut off),6,8
Post 2: #3,5,6
Post 3: #1,7
Post 4: #1
Post 5: #2,4,5,6,7

Thanks very much man! Will go through and number now.

Cheers for taking the time to tell me which you like from each post. Helping me decide which to actually include in my portfolio!

Didn't think it was worth making a thread for each act...

How's this for a reason?

Ahh, apologies. I only normally post in the nightclub thread where that rule doesn't generally apply!

I wasn't trying to be cocky - I just meant I didn't feel the work was strong enough for each act to deserve it's own thread... I wanted general feedback on the full event as a whole, that's all. I will delete all the images and create seperate threads anyway!

Thanks

The first is really funny, good photo, but it's not complimentary to Mr. Marr. He looks ridiculous. If I was past 50, I would never -- in good faith-- place a rose btw my teeth. There's just too much risk.

No worries :)

I like #1.
In #2, the mic is in the way.
#3: Nice expression, position and light, but the drumkit is distracting
#4: Moment okay, crop isn't.
#5: Nice :)
#6: Okay, but nothing special
#7: Ditto
#8: Okay, but I like #1 better…

For a first time, these are fantastic, and your processing is really good ...

#1 is a good photo and well captured, but agree that the moment is a little cringe-worthy ...
#2 the mic is just a tiny bit awkward over the nose but otherwise a great shot.
#3 does have a little clutter than slightly mars a good composition, moment and use of light.
#4 I agree that the moment is good but the angle doesn't capture it as best possible.
#5 I like.
#6 a tiny bit unflattering due to his mouth, difficult to time those right and usually only possible by making a few attempts until you get one where they're not doing something strange with their face - theatre has the same problem for this ...
#7 has nice light but the mic stand is blocking the guitar and it's cropped off.
#8 is a better composition of #4, a shame he's not making the same expression but a good shot ...

These are all minor criticisms, mostly just things that are always problems and you just become aware of with more shooting - clutter, mic/stand blockages, etc. None of them all that easy to avoid every time either ...
