Can someone give me a clue as to what might be going on with this lens. It has gotten terrible from anything 2.8 or smaller.

check the fence in the background and trees, as well as teh foreground grass. the couple are soft as well.

ISO 125, F2.0, 1/800, manual flash off camera, high speed sync at 1/4 power.

It appears a bit back-focused. I just got this lens 3 weeks ago. Had the same issues, even returned it to Sigma, hoping to make the problem go away. According to their work order, they reloaded the lens' firmware. Not sure what that means; I guess there's a chip in there someplace.

Anyway, I was still having focus issues using my 7D and I finally narrowed the problem by micro-adjusting the camera forward to -10. It's better, but I still don't quite trust it enough yet to put it into work production, using that body. Funny thing...on the 5D, it's splendid.

What does the glass inside look like? Any smudges/haze/fungus? Do the aperture blades stop down properly when you press the DOF preview button?

your lens looks totally busted.... it's soft everywhere, and the corners and edges are pretty damn severe.

So is it blurry the more you step down? Something is definitely going on inside the lens, otherwise it's a great photo. Her left knee got the most of the focus point.

Agreed. Also the background looks off, this lens is known for great bokeh. It's supposed to look butter smooth, not pasty.
