Okay... so I know that most everyone in this forum (including mysefl) would use your DSLR for video given the opportunity. So just bear with me here... My wife and I are expecting our 3rd child (first boy) and our Sony camcorder just recently took the ole dirt nap...

I am in search of a high quality camcorder that can be used by my wife (she's not gadget oriented) and also satisfy my need to tinker with settings and be in control.

All my photo gear is Canon, but I am not partial when it comes to video cameras... so fire away. And if you can let me know whether or not you have personal experience with the suggestion it would be helpful. Thanks in advance!!!

Canon XA10 is everything you want, maybe more. Pro quality and features in a small, unassuming package. Full auto or full manual...your choice. Removable top handle with zoom control and XLR inputs. It is in a class by itself and though it can be a little on the expensive side, it is available now at the Canon refurb store for under $1300.

Sony have introduces Ballanced Optical Steady Shot (BOSS) image stabilization and it is supposed to be the best out there at the moment.

Check out the video from CES http://youtu.be/kw6S3ocPqRk (external link)

There is a wide range of models but if they will be "creative" enough for you I can't say. Your wife will probably love them though.
