Hi guys,

I always shoot in both jpg and raw with my G1X. I've noticed that on my last shoot the jpg version of each image is cropped, cutting off the tops of peoples' heads.

I can open the cr2 in Photoshop and Lightroom but then it get cropped too.

I have also used VSO Image resizer to convert the CR2 to Tiff but then there is terrible discolouration and quality reduction.

In Bridge they are also cropped.

Any suggestions on how I can use my CR2 files as intended?

Thanks in advance for advice,
Jo

Sounds like you've inadvertently switched the shooting mode to a 16x9 format. So switch it back to the native 4x3 full frame mode.

I tried that mode on my G1X just now and also experienced the same un fixable crop issue you described and tried it in CS5 but it could not be un cropped. So its not a defect in your camera, just a design flaw/feature, depending on how you look at it. The screen on the camera will letterbox when you're shooting, so if you did want to use that wide-screen mode, keep an eye on how you're framing your shots and also know the optical viewfinder won't show that format change.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for replying. This is a screenshot of the images in DPP: http://www.evernote.com …59e70e0070ce449c2fee60d2d (external link)
yes I am in 16x9 format.
It seems strange that if the information is there, that it can't be uncropped. Surely there must be a way?

UPDATE: I've been able to move the trimming in DPP and then export as TIFF. Whew.

In DPP, the canon program, you can undo the crop on the raw file! Just tried that now. You just have to open the image in DPP editor, engage the crop tool and press the "clear" button, and then you can convert it to a jpeg that you can then process in photoshop, etc.

So there is a work-around!

Cheers!
