Inspired by Carpe Lux's generosity..
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1303176
--and I thank you very much, Carpe--I have 3 ballheads and a panhead that I'd LOVE to give to the first US Veterans of our armed services who e-mail me at jeffreybehr@cox.net (external link) ; I'll cover postage too.

These are inexpensive ballheads that came with inexpensive tripods or that I bought, hoping they'd be good enough*. Overall, each MAY be good enough for you.

As I recall, each creeps a bit while tightening the BH but locks well when tight. The LH 2, each with 2 QR plates, use the standard Arca-Swiss plate and clamp. The 3rd-left, with one plate, uses a larger plate and clamp that can't be tightened on an A-S plate; this one probably would be quite useful dedicated to a single use such as a chronograph sensor or telescope.

The panhead I know little about, having immediately removed it from the tripod it arrived on. I know that the 2 tilts tightened by the 2 rubber handles do work and that the plate locks on and comes off.

These are not limited to one per Veteran; if you want 2, ask. In your e-mail, pls let me know what you want and in what branch you served and approximately when. Do include your shipping address--US only, pls.

I thank ALL U.S. Veterans for serving our country.

* I've since invested over a grand$ in a heavy-duty Gitzo CF tripod and a Kirk BH-3.

All tripod heads are GONE, to U.S. Veterans, the most recent to a serving USAF staff sergeant.

TYVM, gentlemen.

I told someone at lunch that I wasn't sure if I was doing it to make me feel good or to help someone else feel good. :oops:

Either way, it's OK, and it gets surplus stuff OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!! :)
