i rarely see CA with the naked eye when the image is zoomed to fit (not at 100%), so i leave the box unchecked.

just curious though, what's the 'cost' or disadvantage to leaving the option on? how would removing CA for every picture (even when there isn't) affect IQ or degrade the image in any manner?

thanks!

Was discussed once in an Adobe forum where Adobe staff said leaving CA on by default was a good thing, no disadvantage, no degradation. I've tested and agree, so I leave CA on as default.

However, the ACR "Process 2012" that came with CS6 is much slower than previous versions. Most of that slowness comes from noise reduction and CA. So the only downside of using CA is slower conversions.

a little unbelievable if there's truly 0 disadvantage. if it was indeed the case, they would just include it under the hood instead of leaving it as an option (not like CA can creatively beautify a picture, like vignetting). did they explain further?

as for the slowness, i feel that it's much slower on the whole. even when i have standard previews loaded, it pauses for awhile before i get to start editing my photos (in LR4.4, mine was instantaneous). anyone else experiencing similar issues?

The CA correction reduces color fringing around high contrast edges, so I imagine that the downside (if there is one) would be undesired desaturation in other parts of the image.
