The auto focus on mine is working intermittently and driving me nuts. The contacts looked fine to my untrained eye and I cleaned them anyway with no change in AF issue. Before sending it in for repair I was wondering if I've missed something obvious to check or if there is a known issue I'm not aware of with this lens.

Are you trying to do macro with AF? Most do not. How is your Af set-up? How many points active? What body? ETC

I should have clarified... no, not using AF with macro-this happens during normal everyday use/portrait shots. I'm using center AF and a 50D. This only happens with this lens. Every other lens functions fine on this body (50 1.4, 10-22, 70-200 f4 & 24-105). No error messages show up, either.
