Maybe I'm dumb or maybe I'm missing something, but I can't get my 5D3 to fire the flash or even connect wirelessly. Can the 600 be used standalone off camera?

There is no popup flash to use for an optical master and there sure is no radio transmitter in it. No Canon camera has a RF transmitter.

oldvultureface Goldmember More info | To fire the 600 remotely by radio, you'll need another 600 or an ST-E3 transmitter in the hotshoe. Another (inexpensive) radio option is mentioned in the previous post by bobb.

digitalparadise Awaiting the title ferry... More info | Jun 16, 2013 20:25 | #6 There is no camera on the market that has built in RT, yet. May never as Canon can make another $300 on the STE3. Actually if they offered that option I would have taken it. Maybe one day you buy a cam and activate it by purchasing the activation code on line. A non Canon trigger will not work so you will have to use the 3 rd party gear on both ends to fire the 600 but you probably already knew that. Image Editing OK
