Well, I've been borrowing my son's Tokina lens for a couple years now, but I have a feeling his loan is coming due. So do I get another one for myself, or should I be considering something else? I'd like to have a lens that would perform well for both the 5D & 7D.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the little Tokina.

doesn't the tokina have a lot of vignette on the 5D?

you could look at the sigma 12-24mm if you want FF compatability

and how'd you get up so high at grand central :)?

Yeah, that's the snag with the 5D, that's why I'm looking for an alternative that'll play nice with both a ff and crop body.

I'll look into the Sigma.

I told security I was looking for the men's room. And well... better it be my lens sticking out the window.

There is a new version of the 12-24/4 out in a month or so: the 12-28/4

Just tell your son you lost it. If he makes a fuss tell him that you'll consider it payment for the years of raising him ;)

For a lens for both the 5D and 7D I'd look at the sigma 12-24 as well. You get compatibility with full frame but you lose the constant f4 (hell you loose ANY f4 as it starts at f4.5) and the lens will look considerable wider on the 5D
